The Concordia University Chicago baseball team has earned a Pool C bid to the NCAA Division III Regionals. The Cougars will travel to Whitewater, Wis., to compete in the Midwest Regional hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater May 16-20.
The Cougars (33-12) learned of their invitation in the early morning hours of May 14 following a second-place finish in the Northern Athletics Conference tournament over the weekend. While Aurora University beat out the Cougars for the NAC tournament title and the automatic berth to the regionals, the Cougars' strength of schedule and their recent fourth-place ranking in the Midwest Region were factors that weighed heavily in the invitation. The factors carried enough weight to earn the Cougars a fifth-seed ranking in the eight-team regional while Aurora was seeded number seven.
Concordia's first-round opponent will be the fourth-seeded host UW-Whitewater team May 16 at 10 a.m. Other first-round games in the double-elimination tournament include #1 University of St. Thomas (Minn.) versus #8 St. Norbert University, #3 North Park University versus #6 College of St. Scholastica, and #2 University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse versus #7 Aurora.
