Cougars Roll Past Lions 26-2

The Concordia University Chicago football team defeated Finlandia University 26-2

Hancock, Mich. - The Concordia University Chicago football team made the 411 mile trek to Finlandia University for their week two matchup. The Cougars utilized their depth and passing game to roll past Lions 26-2.

CUC scored first near the end of the first quarter on a 39-yard touchdown pass from Jordan Sepulveda (Lake Worth, Fla.) to freshman Babajide Akinola (West Orange, N.J.). The Lions turned the ball over on downs in their own territory, which led to a quick Cougar touchdown. Sepulveda connected with Ty McKinney (Hazelwood, Mo.) for a 41-yard touchdown. CUC missed the ensuing extra point. Sepulveda punched one into the endzone himself on a one-yard rush to bring the score to 20 - 0. The final touchdown of the day was courtesy of Christian Covington's (Covington) 2-yard touchdown reception.

The Cougar defense frustrated the Lions' offense all game allowing only 29 rushing yards and 135 yards total. In addition, CUC forced five three-and-outs giving the offense great field position on several drives. The defense was led again by Earl Macintyre (Smithville, Texas) with seven total tackles. Justin Aduo (Grand Praire, Texas), Jelani Warner (Chicago, Ill.), and Tyler Dudley (Katy, Texas) made strong contributions as well. CUC continued to attack the passing game with 196 passing yards averaging 6.8 yards per reception. The running duo of Amarion Hicks (Chicago, Ill.) and Babajide Akinola combined for 61 of 85 net rushing yards.
