Batavia, Ill. – The Concordia University Chicago men's and women's cross country teams competed at Aurora University's Spartan Classic. Following the meet, both teams finished in sixth-place out of eight teams.
The course was the Northwestern Medical Cross Country Course. During the race, it was 80 degrees and sunny for the runners.
Highlights of the Men's Race:
- Ernest Bogart (Pflugerville, Texas) had an outstanding performance in this meet, finishing in fifth out of 119 runners with a time of 27:12.5, which is the 27th fastest time in school history. This is also a career-best time for Bogart.
- Coming up in 52nd is freshman Callum Hardwicke (Lake St. Louis, Mo.). He ended the race with a time of 29:45.9 for the first 8K race of his career at CUC.
- Rounding out the top three was fellow freshman Emmett Faltesek (Ely, Minn.). He ended the race with a time of 29:57.8 for his first 8K race.
- Also wearing the Maroon and Gold for CUC was Mauricio Xochitecatl (Carol Stream, Ill.), Payton Taylor (Lake Villa, Ill.) and Theodore Lyon.
Highlights of the Women's Race:
- Callie Hoover (Fort Wayne, Ind.) finished on top again this week for the Cougars as the freshman finished in 13th out of 78 runners with a time of 25:48.5.
- Fellow freshman Ariel Martinez (Berwyn, Ill.) followed behind Hoover to grab 40th. She ran a time of 29:01.1 for her first 6K race as a Cougar.
- Closing out the top three scorers for CUC was Diana Almazan (Berwyn, Ill.). The sophomore ran a time of 29:31.2 to finish out this race in 42nd.
- Also appearing for the Cougars today was Julie Ortega (Elgin, Ill.), Ali Wingood (Chicago, Ill.) and Danzcel Gerona (Bartlett, Ill.).
The Cougars will be back at it again next weekend on Friday, Sept. 17, as they travel to Bradley University for the Bradley Invitational. The first race is scheduled to begin at 5:15 p.m.
