WAUKESHA, Wis. --- Getting recognized for his performances over the NACC Championship clinching week, senior Jordan Matthews has been named the NACC Athlete of the Week for the final week of the regular season.

"Jordan was phenomenal," said head coach Steve Kollar. "He helped elevate us to another level by elevating his game to another level. He consistently made big plays at Wisconsin Lutheran by doing it with way more than just scoring. The six rebounds and four steals were tremendous, then to follow that up with his performance at Rockford to help clinch the league title was huge. WE had a lot of guys that made that happen, but J-Rock was just not going to let us come up short in that one. He was tremendous defensively with the six steals and he made a big shot every time we needed it. That is what you expect from your senior leaders and one of the best players in this league. He continues to show that he is one of the best two-way players in the NACC. He's an awesome player, and an even better leader and young man. He does what winners do in big-time moments and he continues to show that and step up each time there is an opportunity."

Matthews had a massive week for CUC, averaging 22.5 points per game while shooting 60 percent from the floor. The senior guard started off the week with a 19 point, six rebound, and four steal effort in the Cougars 79-76 win over Wisconsin Lutheran. Matthews then followed that performance up with a 26 point night on 10-15 shooting against Rockford. Matthews knocked down the go-ahead three with just over four minutes left in the 80-71 win over Rockford. He also came away with four rebounds and six steals in the win.

Matthews and the Cougars will be back in action Wednesday night when Edgewood College comes to River Forest for the NACC Quarterfinals. Opening tip is set for 7:00 pm. Links to coverage are available at cucougars.com/coverage.
