River Forest, Ill. — Following her outstanding showing at the UW-Whitewater Drake Alternative this past weekend, Zahra Sammour (Berwyn, Ill.) of the Concordia University Chicago women's track and field team was named Women's Field Athlete of the Week in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC).
It was a record-breaking day for the junior, who had the best mark in school history in the triple jump at an impressive mark of 11.85 meters. This distance currently ranks 18th in the country as the outdoor season nears its conclusion later this month.
The mark is also a new career-best for Sammour across both her indoor and outdoor careers, passing her previous mark of 11.76 meters set this past February at the 2022 Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational.
She competed in the triple jump at the DIII Indoor National Championships in March, and will look to do the same at the upcoming Outdoor Nationals.
Sammour and her teammates will travel to Milwaukee, Wis., this weekend to take on the NACC Outdoor Championships. Coverage will be available online at cucougars.com/coverage.
