RIVER FOREST, Ill. — Basketball season chugged along at Concordia University Chicago (CUC) this past week, with the women's team having three home games while the men were on the road.
Women's Basketball (5-5, 2-0)
Women's basketball started their week on Monday with a 92-50 clobbering of Great Lakes Christian College, their highest scoring non-overtime game since Nov. 11, 2023. Every Cougar dressed checked in for the game, and all but two scored points. Leading the pack was Alexis Desjarlait (Red Lake, Minn.) with 13 points; Khaliah Reid (Naperville, Ill.) also hit double-digit points with 12. Meanwhile, Mikalah Ellis (Chicago, Ill.) did a little bit of everything, snagging seven rebounds, three assists, and a block.
Next on the schedule was Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference foe Alverno College on Wednesday. In another game where every CUC player available dressed saw game-time, Concordia dismantled Alverno 71-52. Desjarlait set her new season-high in points with 23, and Linley Southern (Decatur, Ill.) set a new career-high with eight rebounds. As a team, the Cougars swiped 20 steals, their most in a game this year, and leading that effort was Lela Scott (Indianapolis, Ind.) with six.
The last game of the week came on Saturday when University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, where CUC fell 95-66. Melia Perry (Plainfield, Ill.) set a new season-high in points with 16, and Nazuri Whigham (Naperville, Ill.) added a career-high 13 points. Freshman Abby Kulig (Carol Stream, Ill.) impressed across the board, adding nine points, seven rebounds, two steals, and a block.
The Cougars now have a little less than three weeks off before their next game, which will be at Northern Illinois University on Dec. 30 at 12 p.m.
Men's Basketball (3-5, 1-3)
It was a quiet week for men's basketball, who only played on Saturday at Edgewood College where the Cougars fell 93-89.
Justin Greenlee (Brown Deer, Wis.) had a day despite the loss, recording 29 points, three assists (the most on the team), and a pair of rebounds. Emanuel Wilson (Wheaton, Ill.) dropped 16 points, and Jacob Collicott (Lafayette, Ind.) also hit double-digit points with 14 while grabbing a team-high six rebounds.
Men's basketball gets this upcoming week off. Their next contest will be Dec. 18 when they host Aurora University at 7 p.m.
