This Week in CUC Athletics: December 2-8

RIVER FOREST, ILL. — Thanksgiving Break is over at Concordia University Chicago (CUC). So as students return to campus and begin preparations for finals, take a second to catch up on everything that happened last week in the world of CUC athletics.

Women's Basketball (1-3, 0-0)

Before the team headed to Thanksgiving Break, women's basketball welcomed the University of Hartford to River Forest on Tuesday night. CUC ended up downing Hartford 56-51 for their first win of the season.

Sydney Nimsakont (Glendale Heights, Ill.) continued to impress in her freshman campaign, leading the team with 19 points. Right behind her was Alisyn MacGregor (Loves Park, Ill.) with 18 points. MacGregor also had nine rebounds, one away from a triple-double. Meanwhile, Cydnei Mitchell (Aurora, Ill.) was the main distributor for the Cougars, dishing out three assists while also swiping three steals.

Women's basketball now prepares for the Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference (NACC) opener on Saturday, Dec. 7, when they pay a visit to St. Norbert College at 3:15 p.m.

Men's Basketball (3-2, 1-0)

Men's basketball faced two tough teams this week.

First, they dueled Division II team the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in an exhibition game on Tuesday; the Cougars lost that game 93-67. Jacob Collicott (Lafayette, Ind.) and Joel Watts (Homewood, Ill.) both had double-digit points with 19 and 10, respectively.

Then, CUC welcomed Elmhurst University to Geiseman Gymnasium on Saturday where Concordia beat the Bluejays 82-67 for the program's first ever win over Elmhurst. Four Concordia players found themselves in double-digit points: Collicott, Watts, Sean Beckman (Hoffman Estates, Ill.), and Kenton Pryor (Hazel Crest, Ill.). Meanwhile, Collicott filled up the rest of the stat sheet with seven boards, three blocks, and three steals. As for Watts, he passed out nine assists, a new career-high.

The Cougars return to NACC play this week with a pair of games. On Wednesday, Dec. 4, they travel to Wisconsin Lutheran College for a 7 p.m. match. They then return home on Saturday, Dec. 7, for Alumni Day against Edgewood College. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m.

Football

The NACC released its All-Conference teams on Tuesday, and seven Cougars found their names on the list.

On the First Team All-NACC was Wesley Jackson (Robinson, Ill.). The tight end had six receiving touchdowns on the year, including three multi-touchdown games.

Three Cougars landed on the Second All-NACC Team. Wide receiver Jayce Levy (Davenport, Iowa) was second on the team in receiving yards with 470 and had eight touchdowns. Then, offensive lineman Daniel Banks (Chicago, Ill.) provided strong protection all season, appearing in all 10 games CUC played. Finally, Marvin Rushing (Detroit, Mich.), a defensive back, rounded out CUC's second team members. Rushing led CUC with 74 total tackles, 55 of which were solo. He also forced a fumble and recovered one as well.

The All-Conference honors ended with three Honorable Mentions. Quarterback Colton Bosch (Coopersville, Mich.) threw for over 2,100 yards this season as well as 20 touchdowns. He added another five scores on the ground. Also making the team was defensive lineman Travon Thomas (Wauchula, Fla.). Thomas registered 62 total tackles, 30 being solo efforts. Jailynn Franklin (New Orleans, La.) was the final All-Conference Cougar. The offensive lineman missed only one game this season, and spent valuable time as CUC's center.
