This Week in CUC Athletics: October 27- November 2

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Concordia University Chicago (CUC) athletics continues on in the heart of the conference slate. Check out what happened last week and what's coming up this week.
 
Women's Soccer (3-12-3, 3-6-2)
The women's soccer team competed in two Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference (NACC) matchups this week.

CUC took on the Eagles of Edgewood University last Wednesday. Despite a hard-fought battle, the Cougars fell 2-0. Alexa Martinez (Downey, Calif.) led the offense with two shots on goal. Erika Flores (Oxnard, Calif.) and Angelina Barreno (Chicago, Ill.) each had a shot on frame. Brooke Sheriff (Simi Valley, Calif.) totaled four saves.

The Cougars then played Marian University on Saturday and dropped the game, 2-0. Naomi Gonzales (Santa Rosa, Calif.) stood strong in net, making five saves. Mia Hirayama (Mililani, Hawaii), Flores, and Martinez each recorded a shot on frame.

This week, women's soccer will play Dominican University at home on Wednesday, October 29. Kickoff is set for 2:00 pm, as the Cougars battle for a spot in the NACC playoffs.
 
Men's Soccer (1-14-2, 0-10-1)
Men's soccer also played Edgewood and Marian this week.

The Cougars faced a tough opponent in the 2025 NACC men's soccer champion, Edgewood, last Wednesday. CUC battled but fell 9-0. Nethan Gudiel (Chicago, Ill.) walked away with seven saves on the day. Giovanni Velasquez (Cicero, Ill.) had two shots while Miguel Salamanca (Chicago, Ill.) had one.

Against the Sabres of Marian, the Cougars lost 4-1. Gudiel had a strong showing in net with six saves. Justin Ocampo (Melrose Park, Ill.) recorded the Cougars' lone goal while Caleb Kale (Moline, Ill.) led the offensive charge with four shots, two of which were on target. Velasquez also had two shots on goal.

The men's soccer team will round out the season on Wednesday, October 29. CUC will take a trip down Division Street to face Dominican at 2:30 pm.
 
Women's Volleyball (5-17, 1-8)
The women's volleyball team competed against Concordia University Wisconsin (CUW) and Marian this week.

CUW swept the Cougars 3-0. Lili Hunt (Greenfield, Ind.) led the squad with nine kills and recorded a block. Eva Fitzgerald (Houston, Texas.) led the team with 20 assists and Bethany Roethel (Westby, Wis.) totaled 16 digs to lead the defense.

On Saturday, the Cougars fell 3-2 in a five-set thriller against Marian. Hunt once again led CUC with 16 kills and two blocks. Kate Foley (Milwaukee, Wis.) followed with 11 kills of her own. McKayla LeVoy (Kankakee, Ill.) and Kirsten Bockhorst (Union, Mo.) each totaled two blocks. Rachel Livesay (Medinah, Ill.) added seven kills, three aces, two assists, and 13 digs. Fitzgerald led with five aces, 34 assists, and 13 digs. Janelle White (Morton Grove, Ill.) contributed with an ace, five assists, and 16 digs.

Before the match against Marian, the Cougars honored their seniors, Bockhorst, Foley, Hunt, Fitzgerald, LeVoy, and White.

This week, the Cougars will play two matches. On Thursday, October 30, CUC hosts Aurora University at 7:00 pm. Then on Saturday, November 1, the Cougars travel to Milwaukee, Wis. to play Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) at 12:00 pm.
 
Cross Country
CUC will compete at the NACC Cross Country Championships on Saturday, November 1, in Green Bay, Wis.
 
Football (4-3, 2-3)
The Cougars fell to CUW 47-20.

Colton Bosch (Coopersville, Mich.) led the squad with 230 passing yards on 15 completions, including three touchdown passes. Joron Brown (St.Joseph, Mich.) led on the ground for 52 yards off of 20 rushes. Kevon Lawson (Pompano Beach, Fla.) led the receivers with 185 yards and three touchdowns. His longest touchdown catch was 77 yards. Defensively, Kadin Stroer (Warrenton, Mo.)  led with 14 tackles, one sack, and one interception.

On Saturday, November 1, the Cougars will travel to Plymouth, Wis. to take on Lakeland University at 12:00 pm.
 
Esports
Esports returns to action this week.

In Smash, the Cougars will face Augustana College – Gold on Tuesday, October 28, at 6:00 pm.

In Overwatch, the Cougars will face University of Illinois Springfield JV on Friday, October 31, at 7:00 pm.
