RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) women's tennis team opened the season on their home court this afternoon, welcoming the Vikings of Lawrence University. While the Cougars battled hard, they ultimately fell 7-0.
Doubles
- At No. 2 doubles, Brianna Bentz (Whitehall, Mich.), who made her debut for the maroon and gold, paired up with Hannah Upole (Hinkley, Ohio). The duo proved to be a force to be reckoned with, narrowly falling 7-6.
- Amelia Engelman (McKinney, Texas) and Amirah Shakir (Dekalb, Ill.) returned to the court as the No. 1 doubles pair for the Cougars. They managed to snag a few points, dropping the match, 6-2.
- CUC duo of Sarah Gustafson (Merrill, Wis.) and Abigail Krueger (Brookfield, Ill.), who made her collegiate debut, also lost their match at No. 3 doubles, 6-2.
Singles
- Upole forced her No. 4 singles match to a third set. After falling 6-1, she won the next set with the same scoreline, flipping the tables on her Viking opponent. However, Upole would get edged out 10-5 in the tiebreaking final set.
- At No. 3 singles, Shakir was able to snatch up points in both sets despite falling 6-1, 6-2.
- Krueger, Bentz, and Gustafson each secured a point in their respective matches, but the Vikings overpowered the Cougars and won all the matches.
What's Next
