RIVER FOREST, Ill. – It's been a busy week for Concordia University Chicago (CUC) athletics. Both soccer teams competed in their final games while the other fall sports continued their deep run in Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference (NACC) play. In addition, both basketball squads start their seasons this week so take a look at what's to come.
 
Women's Soccer (3-13-3, 3-7-2)
The women's soccer team played its final game of the season last Wednesday, hosting Dominican University.
It was a tight battle from the first whistle, but the Cougars ultimately fell 2-1. 
Naomi Gonzales 
(Santa Rosa, Calif.) played the full 90 minutes and recorded seven saves. 
Grace Chavez (Morgan Hill, Calif.) scored the Cougars' lone goal with a rocket of a shot from the top of the box. 
Angelina Barreno (Chicago, Ill.) and 
Julia Urbanczyk (New Lenox, Ill.) each had a shot on frame.
The Cougars finished the season with an overall record of 3-13-3 and 3-7-2 in NACC play.
 
Men's Soccer (1-15-2, 0-11-1)
Men's soccer finalized their season against Dominican last Wednesday at well and fell 4-0.
Juan Moresco (Mercedes, Soriano) and 
Caleb Kale (Moline, Ill.) were both game leaders as they walked away with two shots and one shot on goal each. 
Giovanni Velasquez (Cicero, Ill.) had two shots. 
Kyle Schultz (Pingree Grove, Ill.) had four saves total and 
Nethan Gudiel (Chicago, Ill.) had one save.
CUC finished the season with an overall record of 1-15-2 and 0-11-1 in NACC play.
 
Women's Volleyball (5-19, 1-10)
The women's volleyball team took on Aurora University and Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE).
 
The Cougars made each set difficult for the Spartans but ultimately fell 3-0. 
Lili Hunt (Greenfield, Ind.) led the squad with six kills. 
Indiah Day (Merrillville, Ind.), and 
Rachel Livesay (Medinah, Ill.) each totaled four kills, while Livesay added seven digs. 
Beatriz Goncalves (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) and 
Kate Foley (Milwaukee, Wis.) also each had four kills. 
Eva Fitzgerald (Houston, Texas) led the Cougars with six aces and 16 assists.
On Saturday, the Cougars also fell 3-0 in an incredibly tight battle with MSOE. Hunt led the team again with 11 kills and five digs. Livesay followed with nine kills, two aces, and 10 digs. Just behind Livesay was Day, who registered seven kills, one ace, and three digs. 
Ava Quevedo (Colorado Springs, Colo.) also totaled seven kills, three blocks, and two digs.
This week the Cougars will compete in two matches. On Thursday, November 6, CUC will take a short trip to Dominican. First serve will be at 6:00 pm. Then on Saturday, November 8, the CUC will host Lakeland University at 12:00 pm.
 
Cross Country
CUC ran at the NACC Cross Country Championships in Green Bay, Wis.
The men's team finished sixth of nine teams. 
Dominic Carlson (Loves Park, Ill.) paced the Cougars, finishing 22
nd overall with a new personal best time of 27:25.4. 
Nathaniel Boksa (Norridge, Ill.) crossed the line next for the Cougars with a new personal record of 29:16.6.
 Gael Arroyo (Cicero, Ill.) and 
Julien Saltos (Chicago, Ill.) set new personal records of 30:01.0 and 30:12.2, respectively. 
Nathaniel Hernandez (Harwood Heights, Ill.) rounded out the top five with a time of 30:13.4.
The women's team finished eighth out of 11 teams. 
Izzy Fairless (Royal Oak, Mich.) led the Cougars with a time of 25:06.2 to finish 21
st overall. 
Rose Losey (Royal Oak, Mich.) came across the line next picking up a personal record of 26:30.0. Just behind Losey was Stacey Maskery (Alfreton, England) with a time of 26:59.4. 
Sarah Redhage (Lowden, Iowa) and 
Addi McKee (Knoxville, Ill.) rounded out the top five for the Cougars with personal best times of 27:27.4 and 30:01.4, respectively.
The Cougars will round out the season at the NCAA DIII Midwest Regional Championships on Saturday, November 15, in Waverly, Iowa.
 
Football (4-4, 2-4)
CUC dropped the battle with Lakeland, 47-16.
Colton Bosch (Coopersville, Mich.) passed for 113 yards with 12 completions. 
Josiah Lugo (San Antonio, Texas) led on the ground, rushing for 109 yards and one touchdown. 
Kevon Lawson (Pompano Beach, Fla.) led with seven receptions, 45 receiving yards, and one touchdown. 
Devean Shearer (Saint Charles, Ill.)  led defensively with ten tackles, eight of which were solo. 
Demaris Dumas (Chicago, Ill.) and 
Kadin Stroer (Warrenton, Mo.) each grabbed an interception for CUC.
On Saturday, November 8, CUC will travel to Lisle, Ill. to play Benedictine University at 12:00 pm.
 
Esports 
Esports played two matches this week.
In Smash, the Cougars faced Augustana College – Gold and won 2-1.
In Overwatch, the Cougars took on University of Illinois Springfield JV and fell 3-0.
 
Women's Basketball
The women's basketball team opens its season on Friday, November 7. The Cougars will take on Franklin College in Franklin, Ind. at 5:00 pm (EST).
 
Men's Basketball
The men's basketball team will have its home opener on Saturday, November 8, at 7:00 pm. CUC will host Greenville University.
