RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Finals are finished which means it's finally winter break on the campus of Concordia University Chicago (CUC). However, both basketball squads are still here on campus for a few more games.
Women's Basketball (3-6, 2-1)
The women's basketball team faced off against Division Street rivals, Dominican University. The Cougars dominated and took the game 66-55.
Abbi Dykstra (Yale,Mich.) led the squad with 17 points, while also adding five rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
Grace King (Fairland, Ind.) recorded her first career double-double, with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Also securing double digits was
Ai Yonemura (Yachiyo, Chiba-Japan), who totaled 16 points and four steals.
This week, the Cougars play two games. CUC will compete against Lewis University on Monday, December 15. Tipoff is set for 2:00pm in Romeoville, Ill. Then on Wednesday, December 17, the Cougars will be back in Geiseman Gymnasium to host Judson University at 2:00 pm.
Men's Basketball (4-5, 3-0)
The men's basketball team played twice this week, facing Dominican and Adrian College.
The Cougars continued their undefeated streak in conference play, beating Dominican, 72-61.
Tallis Lowery (Fairview Heights, Ill.) led the team with 14 points, three rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Following just behind was
Darrian Williams (Garland, Texas), scoring 13 points and adding nine rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
Tommy Zimmer (Steger, Ill.) totaled 10 points, five rebounds, one assist, and a steal. Defensively,
Ryker Johnson (Fond du Lac, Wis.) picked up nine rebounds while
Aaron Brown (Joliet, Ill.) grabbed six.
CUC then hosted Adrian and came up just short, 92-81. Lowery knocked down a career-high 22 points, three assists, and went six-for-six from the free throw line. Johnson and
Vic Garrett (Chicago, Ill.) followed with 16 and 15 points, respectively. The pair also secured a combined 13 rebounds.
This week, CUC will play one conference game against Aurora University. Tipoff is set for 7:00pm on Wednesday, December 17, in Geiseman Gymnasium.
