Concordia University Chicago Athletics

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) men's soccer team traveled up to Wisconsin this afternoon for a conference matchup against the Raiders of Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE). After going down by two goals in the first half, the Cougars couldn't overcome the deficit and fell 3-1.
 
Inside the Box

• Nethan Gudiel (Chicago, Ill.) recorded a season-high nine saves in net.
• Ronald Bardales (Zion, Ill.) and Alexander Barrera (Chicago, Ill.) co-led the squad with two shots with one on frame each. Bardales scored the Cougars' lone goal.
• Pierre Balderas (Tlaxcala, Mexico) and Victor Camacho (Chicago, Ill.) each registered a shot on target.

 
First Half

• CUC started on the attack from the opening whistle. In the eighth minute, Balderas forced a save from the Raiders' goalkeeper. Three minutes later, Camacho forced another save.
• The Raiders settled into the game and counter attacked, but the Cougars' defense denied MSOE any quality opportunities.
• In the 24^th minute, Gudiel made his first save of the game. The Raiders persisted in their attack, earning a corner kick. In the 28^th minute, MSOE found the back of the net and took a 1-0 lead.
• Gudiel made another great save as the Raiders continued to press. Once again, the Raiders earned a corner kick and scored in the 31^st minute to double their lead.
• Cristian Barajas Vargas (Cicero, Ill.) put up one more shot for the Cougars and Gudiel made one more save to close out the half, with MSOE leading 2-0.

 
Second Half

• Right off the whistle, MSOE played the ball up the field but were called offside. In the 48^th minute, Gudiel made a strong save to keep the damage minimal.
• The next few minutes belonged to CUC as Evan Miranda (Chicago, Ill.) and Barrera put the pressure on the Raiders. Barerra's shot in the 50^th minute forced a save from the MSOE goalkeeper.
• Gudiel continued to be a force in the net, making three saves in the span of 12 minutes.
• In the 77^th minute, the Raiders tripled their lead.
• However, the Cougars immediately responded. Less than a minute later, Bardales slotted the ball into the back of the net, giving the Cougars a push.
• Unfortunately, CUC was unable to build on the goal and fell 3-1.
