RIVER FOREST, Ill. – The Concordia University Chicago (CUC) basketball teams had a few games last week before heading home for the holidays. Check out all the action.
Women's Basketball (4-6, 2-1)
The women's basketball team competed in two games this week.
First CUC played an exhibition game against Lewis University on Monday, December 15. The Cougars used the battle with the Division II opponent as an opportunity to try different tactics and build as a team.
Naveya Jackson (Sun Prairie, Wis.) led the squad with nine points.
Then on Wednesday, December 17, the Cougars took on Judson University in a non-conference game. CUC quickly found its rhythm, controlling the game, and winning 71-61. Jackson once again led the Cougars with a total of 23 points, tying her career-high, while also contributing four steals.
Sophia Pedraza (Carol Stream, Ill.) reached double digits with 13 points, a career-high six steals, and five assists.
Abbi Dykstra (Yale,Mich.) went three-for-four from beyond the arc and added 11 points.
Abby Kulig (Carol Stream, Ill.) added a career-high five blocks, eight points, seven rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
Linley Southern (Decatur, Ill.) also picked up a career-high nine points, while also totaling five rebounds, two assists, and one steal.
The Cougars will be back in action on Wednesday, December 31. They will host Anderson University (Ind.) at 2:00 pm in Geiseman Gymnasium. Then on January 3, Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference (NACC) opponent Wisconsin Lutheran College (WLC) comes to town for a 1:00 pm tipoff.
Men's Basketball (4-6, 3-1)
The men's basketball team played one NACC game this week against Aurora University.
It was a tight battle against the Spartans, with the Cougars leading for a portion of the first half, but CUC ultimately fell 78-73.
Aaron Brown (Joliet, Ill.) led the charge with 18 points, eight rebounds, and three steals.
Tallis Lowery (Fairview Heights, Ill.) picked up 15 points, six rebounds, and four assists. Picking up a double-double,
Vic Garrett (Chicago, Ill.) tallied 11 points and a team-high 11 rebounds.
CUC will play one more game in 2025, heading to Chicago on Tuesday, December 30, to compete against North Park University at 4:00 pm. Then on Saturday, January 3, the Cougars will host WLC at 3:15 pm in Geiseman Gymnasium.
